A great rap duo is more than two good rappers. It is chemistry: two voices that finish each other's lines, one who sets up and one who knocks it down, or a rapper and a producer who build one sound. Here are 15 of the best rap duos in hip-hop history, roughly by era, with the record to start with.

What makes them work
The rapper and the DJ. Eric B. & Rakim, Gang Starr and Pete Rock & CL Smooth are the classic setup: one voice, one producer, one sound you can recognize in two bars. Rakim's calm, internal-rhyme flow over Eric B.'s beats changed how people rapped.
The two voices that trade. OutKast, UGK, Mobb Deep, Clipse and Run the Jewels are two rappers who pass the mic back and forth. OutKast's Speakerboxxx/The Love Below won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2004, still one of the few rap albums to do it.
The brothers. Clipse (Pusha T and Malice) and Rae Sremmurd (Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi) are brothers, and it shows in how tight the back-and-forth is. "Black Beatles" went to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2016.
The firsts. DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince won the first Grammy ever given for a rap performance, for "Parents Just Don't Understand" (1989 ceremony). Kris Kross's "Jump" spent eight weeks at No. 1 in 1992.
Honorable mention: Unc & Phew
Quavo and Takeoff of Migos, uncle and nephew, recorded as the duo Unc & Phew in 2022. Their single "Hotel Lobby (Unc & Phew)" and its orange-booth performance became the Hotel Lobby AI trend in 2026. The full story is in Quavo and Takeoff: Unc & Phew explained.
Make your own rap duo
Every duo above started with two people and a mic. You can put yourself and a friend, a partner or a sibling in a rap duo video from two photos: the [Photo to Rap AI studio](/) writes an original rap and beat about whatever you choose and renders the two of you performing it, lip-synced, in about 3 minutes. It doesn't use any real artist's song or clone anyone's voice.

FAQ
Who is the best rap duo of all time? OutKast is the most common answer: a string of classic albums, a Grammy Album of the Year and two very different voices that fit. Eric B. & Rakim, UGK and Mobb Deep are the usual picks right behind them.
What are some female rap duos? City Girls (Yung Miami and JT) from Miami are the best-known female rap duo of recent years, with hits like "Act Up" (2018).
What is a rap duet? A song where two rappers share the track, trading verses or lines. Rap duos make them by default; a duet can also be a one-off between solo artists.
Are rap duos still a thing? Yes: Run the Jewels and Rae Sremmurd kept the format alive in the 2010s, and the Hotel Lobby trend turned "two people, one mic" into something anyone can do.
